FACES IN HAITI

Amidst all the construction that has been going on with school buildings, dormitories, and cafeterias, we cannot forget the people who use these buildings. We want to introduce some of the hard working people in Haiti that teach the students or care for the children.

In 2015, we hired Jean Renaud Saint Louis to help us with coordinating the work that goes on in Haiti. With four different directors in four different locations, we soon learned that we needed someone in Haiti to help us with communication and running the business end of things. JR has taken courses in English, studied mechanics and is a good carpenter and furniture maker. He uses his skills building and repairing things at the school/orphanage. He helps his father Arnold Saint Louis run the school and orphanage in Desarmes. He is the general manager and helps with all aspects of the business. JR calls himself a “touch-it-all man”. He loves music and leads the choir at church and plays guitar. He also has a passion for learning and reading. The Bible verse he tries to live his life by is “I can do all things through Chirst who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

His desire is to come to the United States and study English so he can be a better help to us. He will also use his skills teaching English at the school in Desarmes. I am not sure how we can make this happen for Jean Renaud, I am praying that we can find a way to help with his dream. He has been an invaluable help to us, Schools4Haiti would not be as healthy as it is without Jean Renaud’s help.

The teachers have begun a three-year program of working towards teacher certification. This will put these teachers into an elite group of only 15% of teachers in Haiti who have their certification. Schools4Haiti wants to extend our appreciation to those of you who provided finances for their tuition. This education will allow these teachers to gain confidence and expertise that will help their students achieve greater success. The teachers want to express their thanks and what this opportunity means to them.

It is very wonderful to go to the school of certification, because this learning permits me to change and improve my teaching towards the students. It gives me opportunity to work better with students. I congratulate the people who took the initiative to contribute so we can have this learning, Thank you so much Evenia Macajou

Beginning teacher certification is so exciting to me, before I taught by routine, not professional. Now I am starting to teach better because I am getting more learning. That learning is helping me prepare the class and lessons better. I am starting to have great knowledge. It was with arms wide open I embraced that initiative that School for Haiti brings to us to help us. We thank them. Junette Bastien

Madam Victana Pierre works as a child care worker at the children’s home in Desarmes. She is a single mother of 6, her husband abandoned the family and went to the Dominican Republic. Since she has come to work for Pastor Arnold and has a regular income from Schools4Haiti her life has gotten much better. She has become a Christian and has been baptized. She actively works at the church as well, leading music and participating in the service. She says she is grateful for all God has done for her life.

We are so grateful for your financial support of Schools4Haiti. While books, benches, beds, and buildings are very important, it is the people who make the difference in the lives of children. These are just a few of the people that have a steady income because of your involvement. Thank you.
